The Pinkster Trophy is a special achievement award. It is awarded to one of the winners of the tournament and symbolises gay emancipation in sports. The Pinkster Trophy is presented at the end of the Prize Ceremony by Ed van Betuw each year. Ed is one of the founding fathers of the Pinkster Tournament: “The trophy emphasises the special character of the tournament and the equality we strive for. Everyone, regardless gender, event or category can win the Pinkster trophy.” All finalist of all categories will receive a small copy of this award cast in tin.
Artist Berenice Witsen Elias made the design for the current Pinkster Trophy. The arched triangle foot refers to the symbol for homosexuality. The wavy edges of the triangle visualize the movement of the erratic tennis game. A yellow tennis ball balances loose on this foot which has been given the colour of our clay surface. One can hold this ball in one’s hand to help concentrate for a future match. On the foot is the name of Amsterdam Gay & Lesbian Tennis Club Smashing Pink, since the tournament and the club are inextricably bound up with each other.
