There are 58 gay tennis tournaments annually in the U.S, Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. Each of these tournaments is part of the World Gay Tennis circuit organised by the Gay & Lesbian Tennis Alliance (GLTA). The GLTA was founded in 1991 and is an international organisation that supports these events with know-how, a ranking system and tournament software. In 2010 an estimated 8,000 players will take part in GLTA tournaments. With number of tournaments and players growing each year, gay tennis is the fastest growing gay sport in the world.
Each GLTA tennis tournament raises money for charities that focus on gay rights and gay empowerment. In In 2011 the charity proceeds of the Pinkster Tournament will benefit the Amkara Anti Homofobia Campaign and the lesbian soccer team Chosen Few in South Africa.
